The loan has been provided for Tensio’s long-term grid development programme to address network capacity constraints, strengthen reliability, and enable future electrification and industrial development in the Trøndelag region in Norway.

The project covers investments into the regional distribution grid during 2026.

Tensio’s total investments for 2026 amount to NOK 1.2 billion.

Productivity effects are expected to arise from increased grid capacity that reduces electricity bottlenecks, enables new industrial investments, supports business expansion and electrification, and improves access to electricity-intensive economic activities. By replacing the older 66 kV assets with 132 kV infrastructure, the investments are expected to enhance the efficiency and output potential of firms in the region. These productivity gains will materialise gradually as new industrial projects, customer connections, and electrification initiatives make use of the additional capacity.

The investments are expected to generate environmental benefits by relieving grid bottlenecks and increasing network capacity to accommodate the electrification of transport, maritime activities, industry and other sectors. The expanded grid will enable the connection of new electricity consumers and support the transition away from fossil fuels. In addition, the planned Folda subsea cable is expected to facilitate the integration of an estimated 110-150 MW of new wind power generation in Ytre Namdal, further increasing the share of renewable electricity in the region.

The investment programme is not expected to have significant negative environmental impacts. Permits have been obtained for projects under construction and will be secured prior to the commencement of remaining projects.
