Project
The loan is provided to finance part of Nokia’s investments in research and development in its Mobile Networks business group between 2024 and 2026.
The activities in the scope of this loan project are expected to involve R&D employees working across different projects in Finland in the cities of Oulu, Tampere and Espoo.
Fulfilment of NIB's mandate
Nokia is investing in a variety of functions in its Finnish locations to boost productivity. In Oulu, Nokia is building a new R&D campus and factory that will focus on 5G and 6G hardware, software, and system-on-chip (SoC) development. Tampere specialises in SoC development and network management. The global head office in Espoo is conducting research on mobile networks, cloud products and advanced radio technologies. The company strongly collaborates with Finnish universities and research institutions, including sponsorships, that further enhance productivity.
Nokia’s R&D programme for the development of next-generation mobile networks, including radio equipment and antennas, to improve energy efficiency and achieve weight reduction. These improvements are expected to reduce the lifetime carbon footprint of the products.
