Lithuania’s Minister of Finance: security is a new priority for NIB
On 6 May, NIB and the Republic of Lithuania have signed a EUR 400 million financing agreement earmarked for national defence system investments during 2025–2027. According to Lithuania’s Minister of Finance Rimantas Šadžius, security is a new priority for the Bank, alongside its mandate to improve productivity and benefit the environment of the Nordic–Baltic region.
“This loan is a milestone both for Lithuania and for the Nordic Investment Bank,” he said in an interview after the signing. “EUR 400 million is a big sum, a big amount of money that will come to Lithuania to solve our today’s problems.”
The signing took place on the day when the Bank celebrated 20 years of the Baltic membership at NIB together with its stakeholders in Vilnius. Commenting on the Bank’s direction for the next 20 years, the Minister said: “I see the same priority areas that were on the priority list of NIB. Of course, two of them, the green transition and supporting innovation and productivity were always on the list. Security is a new priority.”
